Distracted driving and car accidents

These days, people may find themselves becoming easily distracted. West Virginia residents may be contending with the closure of schools and businesses, or they may have trouble locating certain items in the grocery store. It's good to stay on top of the latest news and changes, but it is equally important to focus on the road when behind the wheel. Distracted driving causes car accidents, and a recent crash may be a case in point.

West Virginia police say a male driver left the lane of travel and crashed into an incoming car as he attempted a corrective maneuver. The vehicle he struck was occupied by another male driver. Upon impact, the victim was trapped in his vehicle.

Both drivers suffered injury and went to a local hospital for treatment. So far, no criminal charges have been filed against the driver at fault. The preliminary evidence has lead law enforcement to suspect the driver in question was distracted in the moments before the crash.

Even when law enforcement determines that a particular driver is at fault for a wreck, there is no guarantee that criminal charges will be filed against him or her. This may leave a victim wondering how to seek his or her own justice. Medical bills, damages to vehicles and other personal property, loss of wages due to inability to work, and other expenses can quickly overwhelm victims in the aftermath of car accidents. Fortunately, a victim has the option to bring a civil action against the driver that caused the suffering, and if a victim chooses to go this route, an experienced attorney can lend a hand.
