Victim shares insight on motorcycle accidents

For many people, riding a motorcycle is more than a method of transportation. Enthusiasts often describe the experience as something almost therapeutic. West Virginia riders are fortunate to have miles of beautiful roadways through picturesque landscapes to enjoy. Spring has officially arrived, and as people plan motorcycle excursions, they may not consider the very real possibility of motorcycle accidents

Recently, a man from a neighboring state publicly shared his own experience in an attempt to both raise awareness and help other motorcyclists know what to expect in the event of a serious wreck. The man, who has been riding for decades, was never involved in a crash until a few years ago. He described being struck by a distracted driver who admitted to police at the scene that she did not even see the victim before the crash.

The man also reminds riders to always wear proper safety gear. While helmets, pads, boots and other equipment cannot be guaranteed to prevent serious injury, they can go a long way to lessen the severity of common conditions suffered in a bad wreck. Head injuries, road rash and broken bones are chief among the injuries reported in motorcycle crashes.

Being struck by a distracted driver can leave a West Virginia victim in a mess. Serious injuries can take a long time to recover from, and following a crash, victims can expect to be faced with medical bills, expenses related to damages to their motorcycles, the inability to work due to injury, and even a permanent physical disability that may require modifications to a victim's home or special medical equipment. A victim may want to consider consulting an attorney who has experience with motorcycle accidents. An attorney can help a victim bring a civil suit against the driver that caused the crash and collect any monetary award a court may deem appropriate to compensate for a victim's suffering.
