4 reasons why truck accidents are more common during the holidays

Passenger cars are not the only vehicles crowding the roads during the holidays. Semi trucks and other commercial vehicles are everywhere as they rush to deliver food, retail products and supplies during the busiest time of year.

Historically, the holiday season brings an uptick in car crash fatalities. Trucking accidents may be a contributing factor for these four reasons.

1. More trucks

From November through January, retail stores and supermarkets need a full stock to meet the increase in demand from holiday shoppers. Some trucks deliver online shipments from retailers like eBay and Amazon. This means an increased amount of commercial trucks on the road, which inherently increases the chances that motorists may get into a collision with one.

2. Fatigue

Tiredness is a major concern for truck drivers. Long hours and demanding schedules can cause truck drivers to get an insufficient amount of rest. When truckers push themselves beyond the limits during the holidays, they can cause a deadly collision.

3. Speeding

Truckers face tight deadlines for their shipments during this time of year. This may cause some truck drivers to rush and drive carelessly. A speeding or aggressive truck driver can cause serious wrecks in holiday traffic.

4. Intoxication

Alcohol impairment is a serious problem for all drivers during the holidays, and truckers are no exception. Although any type of drunk motorist is a safety concern, trucks are even more dangerous. A massive and heavy truck can do a lot more damage at the hands of a drunk driver than a passenger vehicle.

Get help after an accident

If you or a loved one are involved in a truck accident during the holiday season, it's important to get a police report at the scene and seek medical attention immediately. With this evidence, a skilled personal injury lawyer can help you gain compensation.

During this demanding time of year, no one should suffer through pain and expense caused by a negligent driver.
