Driver charged with DUI following 2-car collision

West Virginia State Police took a man into custody and charged him for operating a vehicle while under the influence. The Ohio man, age 46, had initially fled the scene of the accident on May 23 before being located by a K-9 unit.

The accused man was traveling southbound on Route 20 in Hinkleville when he crossed the center line and struck an oncoming vehicle. Immediately following the collision, the accused man and his passenger, who turned out to be his wife, allegedly fled up a nearby hill and into the woods. They were located by a K-9 officer about 300 yards away from the scene of the collision.

The driver of the other vehicle did not report any injuries. However, his passenger was taken to a nearby hospital. There were no reports on her condition. It did not appear that the accused man or his passenger suffered any injuries. The man was ultimately charged with DUI resulting in injury and leaving the scene of a crash with a resulting injury.

When drunk drivers cause car accidents, those involved are at serious risk for suffering life-threatening injuries. Crash victims may be entitled to compensation for their medical costs, pain and suffering and lost wages. However, most insurance companies will not offer a large enough settlement that covers all of the damages. Therefore, a personal injury attorney could determine what the total cost of the damages are and negotiate an appropriate settlement. If negotiations are not going anywhere, the attorney could take the case to trial.
