Trampoline parks can be dangerous

As trampoline parks become more and more popular, West Virginia residents and parents may not be too surprised to learn that the rate of injuries at these parks are increasing. According to a study, injuries that occurred in trampoline parks increased from about 600 cases in 2010 to nearly 7,000 cases in 2014.

Trampoline parks are indoor spaces that have multiple trampolines connected to each other. The room is usually surrounded by padded walls. While more accidents still occur on home trampolines, researchers are concerned that the injuries suffered at trampoline parks may be even more severe. For example, about 9 percent of trampoline accidents that occur in the parks require hospitalization while only about 5 percent of accidents that occur at home result in hospitalization.

The most common trampoline park injuries included sprains and fractures, though a dislocation was also likely to be involved. When compared to at-home trampoline injuries, the injuries that occurred at trampoline parks were more likely to be lower-extremity injuries versus upper-extremity injuries. If parents do intent to take their child to indoor trampoline parks, they should supervise the child and ensure that they play safely.

Property owners are responsible for ensuring that their property is free from any dangerous hazards. People who are injured while on another party's property may be eligible to file a premises liability lawsuit especially if the owner knew that the property was dangerous but failed to mitigate the hazards. This is the case with both private residences and businesses. An attorney can often review a case to determine how best to proceed.
