Crash kills 1, injures 6 in wreck involving Secret Service agents

West Virginians who are following the presidential primaries might be interested in learning about an accident that happened in New Hampshire. According to law enforcement and Secret Service sources, a fatal accident claimed one person and injured six, including four Secret Service agents.

The accident happened on Dec. 29 on New Hampshire Route 16. The four agents, who were off-duty at the time, were traveling north, purportedly heading to protect one of the presidential candidates who were campaigning in the state. The four were traveling in a Ford Taurus. A 45-year-old man traveling in the other direction in a Mercury Sable reportedly crossed the center line of the highway, striking the Taurus head-on.

Emergency personnel who responded to the accident scene declared the 45-year-old man dead. The four agents were transported to a local hospital for treatment of injuries the Secret Service director said were serious, but not life-threatening. Two passengers riding in the Mercury Sable were also injured. It is unclear which presidential candidate the agents were supposed to protect, but Hillary Clinton's campaign released a statement thanking the agency and expressing her sorrow for the crash.

When people are injured in accidents caused by the negligent driving behavior of another, they may want to file civil lawsuits in order to hold the driver liable for their losses. When the negligent driver dies in the accident, injured plaintiffs can name the driver's estate as the defendant. Through a lawsuit, plaintiffs may be able to recover damages so they can be fairly compensated for the losses they suffered. Injured victims may want to consult with a personal injury lawyer to discuss the procedures that are involved.
