Woman charged with DUI after crash

A 39-year-old woman turned herself in to authorities and was arraigned on May 8 in Cabell County, West Virginia. The woman faces multiple drunk driving charges after authorities say that she caused an accident on April 7 that resulted in the death of a 70-year-old. The crash occurred on the westbound portion of Interstate 64 near mile marker 4.

An investigation determined that the woman was the driver of the car believed to have caused the accident that involved three passenger vehicles and two tractor-trailers. A passenger in the car told authorities that they had been using drugs, but that person had not been charged. Both the woman and her passenger were given naloxone, and authorities say that the driver had multiple injection sites on both of her arms.

The passenger claimed that she did not know the driver before using drugs prior to the accident. Authorities say that a DUI causing injury charge had been filed while the woman was at the hospital. However, she had left the hospital before authorities could pick her up. At the time of the accident, the driver's license had been revoked in Ohio after a DUI, and she was also convicted of DUI in West Virginia in 2009. She was being held cash-only bond of $750,000.

Those who have been hurt in a car crash caused by negligent drivers may wish to talk with an attorney in an effort to preserve their rights. The family members of those who are killed in an accident caused by a negligent driver may also wish to talk with an attorney. Injured victims or the family members of those who are killed may be entitled to compensation for the losses that have been sustained.
