6 people injured on amusement park ride

West Virginia residents have likely heard about some of this summer's incidents of amusement park injuries and deaths, including the Kansas boy who was killed while riding on a water slide. In another case in Connecticut, six people who were on an amusement park ride were injured after receiving electrical shocks.

The incident happened on the Scrambler ride at the Ocean Beach Park in New London, Connecticut, on Aug. 16 just before 2 p.m. In addition to the riders, the ride's operating also reported being shocked as he operated the ride. On the Scrambler, three people sit in each car, and the cars are swirled around using a pivoting mechanism.

Reportedly, those who were injured included both adults and children. All were transported for treatment of minor injuries, the worst of which was an electrical burn to one person's hand. The rides at the park have been closed while detectives with the New London Police Department investigate. Several electrical problems have been identified and are being repaired, and the police indicated the rides will be inspected before they are reopened.

People who are injured by dangerous hazards at amusement parks may be able to hold the park's owner liable for damages to pay for the losses they have suffered. Owners may be held to be responsible if the hazards were ones that they either knew existed or ones they should have known about and failed to correct or to warn guests about. People who are injured may want to discuss their cases with personal injury attorneys who have experience with this type of litigation.
